The DTFC Zine showcases the results from our most recent project. For this activity, we created five original abstract ink drawings. We brought photocopies of these works to Chiang Mai’s Sunday art market and asked participants to “select and complete” a drawing of their choice. The participants ranged in age and ability, including children and students to professional artists.
PROJECT 1
Where: Chiang Mai, Thailand Walking Market
When: April 26th, 2009

Project Summary: We created five original abstract ink drawings and photocopied them. We then took the drawings to the Chiang Mai weekly art market and asked people to “select and complete” a drawing of their choice. To showcase the results, we compiled a range of drawings into a Zine called Drawing From the Crowd.

Phase 1 (the drawings)

The participants included both Thais and foreigners, ages 3-50!

Here you can see someone drawing on the inkblot sheet.

People had the option of markers, colored pencils, or pens.
Phase 2 (the zine)
We ordered all of the zines by category, so you could see the drastically different ideas people came up with from the same ink blot. Next, we photocopied 50 copies and begin to put the zine together. We decided on a two signature binding with a stapled cover. Everything was assembled at a local and fabulous printmaking studio called CAP studio (Chiang Mai Art on Paper).

Working hard at making zines with CAP studio interns!

The final cover is printed on cardstock.
